DR. BERNARD JENSEN  March 25, 1908 – February 22, 2001 (93 years)

(Taken mainly from his book, Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management, 1981)

Beginning his career as a chiropractor in 1929, Dr. Bernard Jensen soon turned to the art of nutrition in search of remedies for his own health problems.

In all, he worked with over 350,000 patients around the world.  He traveled to over 50 countries to study the lifestyles of the different cultures in an effort to understand the principles of long and healthy living.  He visited Russia where he studied the long-lived people.  The last man he met in Russia was 152 years of age.

Many of the spas and nature cure sanitariums in Europe were visited.  Many constructive ideas were brought back to develop the Hidden Valley Health Ranch in 1955.  It was a place for his patients and guests to come and learn how to live a healthy life, and it served as a retreat for people from all over the world.  The Kneipp water baths from Worishofen, Germany were established; the organic garden provided 60% of the meals served; lectures and demonstrations were given and the summer classes became a main attraction.

As evidenced by Dr. Jensen’s description of his visits to Dr. Kellogg’s Battle Creek sanitarium and his good friendship with V. E. Irons, these pioneering practitioners knew about and supported each other’s work.

Dr. Jensen believed that nutrition is the greatest single therapy to be applied in the holistic healing arts and the whole patient, not just the disease must be treated.
