Our experiences with detoxifying and attaining and maintaining vibrant health over the years have been varied. The focus started
with diet and exercise when, in 1986, after being out of school for two years, Dr. Devon R. McIntosh (DRM) returned for graduate studies.
After having obtained science and engineering first degrees, he was surprised at how difficult it now was to grasp the underlying
concepts. Realizing that something about him had changed, and having been introduced to basic health principles, DRM changed
to a mostly vegetarian diet that included plenty of water. He also started getting regular exercise and 7 – 8 hours of sleep
per night. That first semester was difficult, but by the end of that four month period he regained his mental clarity, which
he maintained throughout the remainder of graduate school.
In 1992, about a year after graduation, DRM noticed headaches and
mental cloudiness after some meals, which turned out to be reactions to MSG, preservatives, and improper food combinations.
Around that time, he was also introduced to Dr. Bernard Jensen’s book, Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management (1981) and the V.E.
Irons 7-day cleansing program, which made quite an impression. Although seemingly fit on the outside, the materials eliminated
from the colon during that cleanse were truly remarkable and told a different story (see Dr. Jensen’s book for typical examples). During that first cleanse (and during subsequent cleanses), DRM experienced seemingly unprecedented levels of mental clarity. He was so impressed he became a distributor for V.E. Irons Inc. and Colema BoardsÒof California to get friends and family on the cleansing
program.
For DRM, detoxification via the 7-day cleanse program was critical to efficient mental and physical performance, however,
over the years, the frequency of cleanses moved from semiannually to annually to biannually because as his life became busier,
the cleanses became less convenient. This continued until he met Ester Kibunja who was cured from lupus and certain death by
an intensive regimen of vegetable juices, raw foods and nutritional supplements that served to detoxify her body and build her immune
system (see Esther Kibunja - Cured). It became clear that while the colon irrigations used with the V.E. Irons 7-day cleansing
program provided the most thorough cleansing in the shortest time, intensive juicing and a raw diet that provides the required nutrients
with minimal digestive and eliminative stress, could also allow the body to detoxify to notable degrees. This is why Dr. Norman
W. Walker stressed juicing and raw foods as well as colon irrigations. This view was shared by other principals in the field
(see Pioneers). It seemed to us that, used together, modified versions of these two methods could be combined to yield excellent
results with greater convenience than either method could provide separately. However, we found no formal programs that incorporated
both methods in a way that maximizes overall convenience. To fill this need, we developed the CustomCleanseTM program with associated
maintenance guidelines. We hope the customized level of convenience it provides will allow consistent utilization of the program.
