Maintaining a Healthy Colon requires close attention to food choices. A main objective of the foods eaten after the cleanse, is to minimize further toxic buildup within the colon while facilitating the elimination of any residual encrusted matter. For best results, we recommend a diet that includes at least 50% raw foods (preferably more – see Why Whole/Raw?) eaten with two to six teaspoons per day of unprocessed bran flakes and anywhere from zero to 14 servings of the psyllium based cleansing drink (see below) per week. The exact amount of cleansing drink depends mainly on the percentage of meats and raw foods eaten, the amounts of refined and processed foods vs. whole foods, how well foods are combined (such as not mixing starches and proteins within the same meal, see Rita Romano, Dining in the Raw, Kensington Books, N.Y., 1992, or Norman W. Walker, Fresh Vegetable And Fruit Juices, Norwalk Press, Prescott, 1978), inherent strength of the digestive system, and daily water intake (nominally eight 8oz glasses of water per day). As such, the table below, which assumes the standard eight glasses per day water intake, provides a rough starting point for each user’s own individual determination of the weekly number of cleansing drinks.

Factors to Consider For Estimating Exact
Quantity of Cleansing |
1. About two good bowel movements per day is appropriate. 2. More meat eating requires more cleansing drink 3. Weaker digestive systems require more cleansing drink 4. Typical water intake is at least eight 8oz glasses of water per day 5. Better food combining requires less cleansing drink 6. Less refined and processed foods require less cleansing drink | |||
